Second Amendment Sanctuary Bill HB258 sponsored by Rep. Jedediah Hinkle has been signed into law by Governor Gianforte. The purpose of this law is to prohibit any state law enforcement from enacting any additional regulations on gun ownership in the state of Montana.
A peace officer, state employee, or employee of a political subdivision is prohibited from enforcing, assisting in the enforcement of, or otherwise cooperating in the enforcement of a federal ban on firearms, magazines, or ammunition and is also prohibited from participating in any federal enforcement action implementing a federal ban on firearms, magazines, or ammunition
With the Biden administration’s promises to further regulate “ghost guns,” short-barreled rifles, and enact new “red flag” laws at the federal level, the passing of HB258 is a sigh of relief for many Montana gun owners.
Governor Gianforte continues to appeal to Conservatives with his signing of HB258. He recently signed an executive order prohibiting employers from requiring vaccine passports and is planning on signing into law new regulations on abortion next week.
